My first post with the Victoria University of Wellington’s Incline blog was published in September, building off some earlier research I conducted for the Australian Naval Institute. It examined the opportunities for Australia and New Zealand to work more closely together in maritime capability acquisition over the next decade to build a more interoperable fleet and reinforce a shared sense of purpose and direction in upholding security throughout the South Pacific.
Specifically, the alignments in each nation’s capability plans suggest that there are opportunities for co-development of a new multirole sealift vessel, as well as New Zealand potentially acquiring the same class of Offshore Patrol Vessels currently under development for the Royal Australian Navy.
